ELITE chairman John Casablancas
doesn't deny he
called supermodel Gisele Bundchen a pothead in a
Brazilian magazine, but says he never accused her of
sleeping her way to the top. "The last thing any model
manager would ever do is comment on a model's sex life,
" Casablancas says. "Gisele's success is due
to two things:
first, the incredible teamwork that Elite surrounded her with
during the four years it took for her to climb from obscurity to
the top. Second, her natural beauty, talent and interesting
personality. I've never heard anyone say that Gisele is in
any way promiscuous; quite the contrary."
(obviously one could joke what
"two" things help her get to to the top,
but that be too obvious of a joke to make)
DON'T invite Donald Trump and Rachel
Hunter to the same
fashion show. The New Zealand beauty read our item that
Donald had consoled Rod Stewart over their break-up, saying,
"You're better off without Rachel. You can do better."
Responds Rachel: "After punching him in the face, I will pick
him up off the floor and explain to him that he has better things
to do than talk about other people's relationships."
(and this guy wants to be the President
of the USA??)

The beautiful Sykes
twins know it's not a party until something
gets broken. The pair of saucy British imports, Lucy, Allure's
fashion editor, and Plum, a Vogue staff writer, celebrated
their
birthday with a bash at Amy Sacco's Chelsea hotspot Lot 61.
Kate Moss, Minnie Driver, Sophie Dahl, Milla Jovovich,
Griffin Dunne, Nick Nolte, Michael Keaton and the rest of the
guests had such a raucous time dancing on the tables that the
next morning Sacco had to order 16 cases of drinking glasses
(that's 576 of them) to replace the evening's breakage.
- Donald Trump tells Rod Stewart,"You're better
off without her
(Rachel Hunter). You can do better."
- Former Miss America and Clinton one night stand,
- Elizabeth Ward Gracen files for Bankruptcy.
- Rosie O'Donnel, Ricky Martin, Janet Reno, Algore's
campaign manager,
Richard Simmions; Andrew Sullivan wants to "OUT" you.
(personal note: A person
must have WAY TOO much time on their
hands if they're trying to "out" Richard Simmons...)

SHALOM scene stealer
THINGS are heating up backstage at
Shalom Harlow's theatrical debut. The supermodel plays a
hooker-in-training whose pimp boyfriend sells her to a lesbian.
It's an adaptation of Maria Vargas Llosa's "La Chunga,"
being
staged at The Bar downtown on Second Avenue. The romantic
drama also stars Visionaire editor James Kaliardos, who runs the
theater company. But when Shalom started getting hot and heavy
with set designer Jack Flanagan -- while Flanagan was still seeing
Visonaire co-founder Cecilia Dean, one of Kaliardos' closest friends
-- things really got interesting. "The drama offstage is better
than on,
" quips one insider. |

| Need a date?
TOP models strapped for cash are making extra money
through a
$1,000-an-hour Internet escort service. Glamour Roses Models
offers dates with a stable of 50 young beauties, some of them stars
of well-known ad campaigns. Of course the names have been
changed, but the industry is abuzz that some girls have inadvisably
used the same photos that appear on their modeling composite cards.
"The photos of my models are real and the descriptions are
accurate,"
declares the site's "mistress," Arianna. "My models
have appeared in
major motion pictures, television shows, print and commercial
advertisements. Many have graced the covers of fashion magazines."
For the basic $1,000-an-hour dating service, "I can arrange
for you to
visit one of my models in the privacy of her apartment," Arianna
offers.
A "dinner date" (four hours) costs $3,900; dinner and
a show (eight hours),
$7,600; overnight (12 hours), $11,100. A full 24 hours will set
you back
$16,200 -- comparable to a day rate for an up-and-coming young thing
at a modeling agency. Arianna says her girls "use this to supplement
the money they make modeling." Said one agency owner: "If
I ever found
one of my girls on there, I would drop her immediately."

the prestigious Canadian Ready to Wear shows!?
Actually this is too bad. Just going to mean more
Canadian talent and industry going to the US.
Hello Brain drain... (they really should change any

from NYC. Closer to the Asian and LA markets too.) |

A TOP model scout has
fired back at Elite chairman John Casablancas'
manifesto defending his agency in the wake of the BBC scandal. "Bravo
for making yourself look like a 100-times bigger schmuck in that
hypocritical, arrogant, and nauseatingly faux-martyr-pillar-of-morality
crock of B.S. you had the audacity to send," writes Simone Chafik,
who
has found scores of models for Elite and others. "My letter is
aimed at
cleaning out the business of all its parasites," Casablancas
replied, "
specifically people like you."
JOSEPH Pittman was one happy 15-year-old yesterday.
Joseph, who
suffers from a rare form of Multiple Sclerosis, got to spend the
day
with GQ covergirl Tyra Banks He had asked the Kid's Wish Foundation
to introduce him to Banks, who took him shopping at the NBA store
and
dined with him at the All-Star Cafe. Joseph and Tyra then went to
the
Knicks-76ers game, and met the Knicks. [

| DISSIN' DESIGNERS AT COSTUME GALA
... FASHION designers Stella
McCartney and Stephano
Gabbana squared
off at the Metropolitan Mueum on Monday night. The issue was fur.
McCartney, an animal-loving vegan like her late mother Linda Eastman
and her dad Paul McCartney,
is a zealous crusader against fur. Gabbana,
and his partner in Dolce & Gabbana, design fur coats.
... Stella recently sent Gabbana a videotape detailing the suffering
and the
slaughter of fur-bearing animals. When Gabbana saw her at the star-studded
benefit for the museum's Costume Institute, he told her off.
"He told her she could take the tape and shove it," said
one witness. "He said,
I don't care what you do. Why do you care what I do?' And
she said, If you
don't care what I do, why are you always copying me?'"
... An angry McCartney told of the encounter to Liv
Tyler, who immediately
went over to Stephano and said, "Why did you say that to my
friend? You're so
mean." Gabbana replied, "She should mind her own business."
... Elsewhere, Vogue editrix Anna Wintour,
who co-chaired the event with
Aerin Lauder
and Tommy Hilfiger,
was actually wearing a fur-trimmed frock,
as was supermodel Naomi Campbell.
Steven Seagal arrived
nearly an hour after all 850 guests had sat down in the Petrie Court,
causing a minor kerfluffle as organizers scurried about trying and
failing to find him a seat at
the sold-out event. It seemed as though Seagal -- wearing jeans
and a smock-like shirt -- had
been strolling down Fifth Avenue, saw the black-tie crowd, and decided
to see what was going
on inside. The annual fundraiser, which used to be a high society
event when Pat Buckley
and Blaine Trump
chaired it, has become as celebrity-saturated as the Oscars. This
year,
with "Rock Style" as the exhibit -- a collection including
the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper uniforms,
Kiss costumes, and Madonna's cone bra -- such rockers as Steven
Tyler and Joe
Perry of
Aerosmith and Richie Sambora
of Bon Jovi were on hand. The Met's founders might have
spun in their graves when Sean "Puffy"
Combs took the stage with a half-dozen
bikini
dancers. But the Puffster, in a double-breasted white suit, ended
with a mellow version of the
Police classic, "I'll Be Watching," backed by a children's
choir. Combs dedicated the song to
loved ones who were missing, particularly
Gianni Versace. The designer's sister Donatella
sobbed softly during the number, as Maxwell
put his arm around her to console her.

"Models are like baseball players. We make a lot
of money
quickly, but all of a sudden we're 30 years old, we don't have
a college education, we're qualified for nothing, and we're used
to a very nice lifestyle. The best thing is to marry a movie star"
-- Cindy Crawford on the BBC ...
"IF writers and artists stop coming to New York
because of the rents, that would
be tragic. It is one thing to have four airline stewardesses
sharing the rent, but to
have four poets? They would end up killing
each other"
-- Pete Hamill
to a dentists' convention at the Javits Cener. |

LISA Brinkworth - the BBC reporter who went undercover to
expose illicit sex and drug use among underage models - has
gone underground following death threats. Brinkworths phones
were tapped, her office broken into, and her trash gone through,
reports Fashion Wire Daily. Meanwhile, the ones who say they
will really suffer in the fallout from the "MacIntyre Undercover"
expose are the scouts. "We are the ones who are going to be
hurt
most," one top scout who makes a living finding girls on the
street
told PAGE SIX. "This is going to make it impossible to approach
girls. Parents are going to be totally paranoid. The supply of girls
is
going to be dramatically shortened." Tuesday night when the
documentary aired in Britain, it was the talk of top model Ines
Sastres birthday party at Cipriani here. "Everyone was
being so
hypocritical and condemning [Elite exec] Gerald Marie when
theyre guilty of the same thing," our spy complains.
Elite, which
suspended four execs including Marie, has issued a statement
saying "final disciplinary measures" will be taken. "Elite
wishes to
apologize unreservedly to the models, parents, and employees for
whom this program has been a source of embarrassment and
obvious concern".
