+ Tax Haven
Pagesix - Laetitia Casta moving to New York. British press says it's for lower taxes. Casta says it's for a film career.
(I think Casta should give up on the film idea. She's not much better than Estella Warren. If she's serious about a film career, I'd say move to Montreal, Quebec. It has French film studios. Or to Vancouver or Toronto. Taxes are higher than New York in those cities, but most Hollywood movies seem to be getting made there, these days. If she wants low taxes, then maybe Miami, or Nevada. To learn more about the largest tax and regulatory haven in the world for foreign nationals not resident in the US. Please visit this Hyperlink. Of course there's here in Alberta, Canada too. Ranked #9 in Fiscal Perfomance in both Canada and America. Projected to have a 4% growth in GDP this year, despite a possible world-wide recession. Of course, it looks like the recouvery has already begun and it could be only a Q4 or Q4, Q1 recession, if that even.)
+ Read her lips
Pagesix - Sophie Dahl joins London's the Vagina Monologues
(Why do I have a hunch I'm going to read in the near future an article saying: "The Vagina Monologues closes due to lack of ticket sales and in unrelated news, Mick Jagger in Guinese World book of records, for having the most bought tickets in a week's time for a London play production".)
gossip
Friday 28th September 2001

+ Gucci has $2bn to spend on expansion
The Times - Gucci has a 2 billion (£1.35 billion) war chest saved up. Sales down in America, but turnover up in Japan
(Gucci is just incredible)

+ America is beautiful at Milan shows
Boston Globe - I love NY and the start of American chic?
(If an American chic trend were to start, I'd laugh! The good happy to hear, laughter. Not the bad, making fun of, laughter. Usually it seems these days designers in the heart of Europe are more likely to do social activism, anti-globalism, type themes in their fashion if they're going to do one. You really can't find a better symbol for the opposite of all that these days, then George W's America)

+ Unfashionable Prada
Pagesix - Prada tells employee to get back to work shortly after the WTC attack
(Remember last October when Prada held a big bash with the French Communist party. Maybe Prada will follow up the good will next Fall with Taliban Chic, or something just as asinine)

+ Victoria back in New York
Pagesix - Victoria's Secret has a lingerie show in November in NYC
(Hmmm.. Lingerie company says it'll have a show in New York. Gucci tells it has rainy day money. And Prada tells its employees to, "It is necessary to put the company's overall interest before one's own". Which company lost the PR war this week?)

+ D&G love NY, ok?
Thisislondon - Could this guy who wrote this be more sarcastic towards what D&G did??
(Question for you. What is more exploitive to a bad event:
When a company does some good ol'PR, flag waving. Or when a company cancels its big event, due to the circumstance; while talks of a recession goes on in the back ground. So if your magazine sales are down, or business' forecasts or Q4 are down. That's one way to save yourself money. Coincidence? What is the circumstance exactly they're reacting too - September 11th, or fears of a reccession? Fashist!Forum)

+ Fashion-week diary
TradeWeave - Milan somber as U.S. buyers stay home, Italian designers cancel parties
+ Americans steer clear of Milan fashion week
Toronto Star - Denis Desro, the fashion editor-in-chief at Elle Canada, says he has heard estimates that at least half of the American press and buyers are not coming to Europe.
+ Girls reveal the lowdown on jeans
Toronto Star - New jeans tend could mean: Get a bikini wax or make a fashion statement
(Modz, Bull, Bear and I would just like to ask every fashionable woman out there to buy jeans)

+ Rough Attitude
Pagesix (FWD) - Hair this season is rough, tumbled and tousled.
+ Canadians show creativity on and off the runways (w/ picts)
Toronto Star - Before you laugh at the sounds of Canadian fashion week. I should point out, these will be the designers most of your favorite designers will send headhunters out for one day.
+ A model homecoming
Toronto Star - Canadians in fashion return home
+ Kate looks great - I should Coco
Daily Telegraph - Kate Moss is the face of Chanel's new fragrance.
(The month started with news Kate Moss was in an auto accident. We end the month with news of her life just got better. I'm not sure what my point is, but it's a nice way to come full circle in an awful, awful month.)

Pagesix(FWD report)- Mode magazine, the first and only high-fashion monthly for full-figured American women, is closing up shop.
+ MODE no more
Pagesix- MODE magazine is no more. After five years of publication, the monthly for plus-size women is ceasing operations

(So much for Carre Otis leading a new generation of fashion models. It's never good when a magazine with a unique idea disappears. If this in any way can give a hint to the rest of the magazines to get rid of and stop using Sophie Dahl. Then there would be a silver lining. With MODE now gone, there is certainly a void to be filled. Maybe if there's a hungry entrepreneurial publisher out there. We might see a new Sized 12 fashion magazine on the menu in the future.)

(I'm not suprise. When I was in London. I saw just about everyone it seemed in FCUK shirts. It just goes to show you how a witty name with its initials can be a big hit. Take for example the opposite of this. Here in Canada, one of our Federal political parties, now on its 3rd name. Had a really bad 2nd name due to its initials. It was going to call itself: Canadian Conservative Reform Alliance Party, or, C.C.R.A.P. When someone pointed this out to them, mere minutes after they made it official, they changed it into CRCAP. Talk about embarrassing! Even a diehard supporter wouldn't want their shirt to say "CCRAP" on it. I'd suggest Fashist! t-shirts, but.. I don't think most people would "get" the joke behind the name. But if Gucci were ask to use the name.. Who would I be to say no. ;-) )

Even the most liberal and forgiving number was 150 pounds. Otis is overweight. I didn't take in her body frame into account. Mind you she's only like 3% overweight. Point being. In the hunt for body role models. We've heard the story on the bad ones fashion models make. + Co-star says Estella Warren 'can't act her way out of paper bag'
canada.com - "Estella can't act". "She can't act her way out of a paper bag and I'll say that!" "She is the eye candy in the movie"
(On my flight back from London one of the movies was Driven, that Sly Stalone/ Indy car racing movie. Bad movie. Estella was in it. She is a bad actress. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying she shouldn't be an actress. After all, with actresses like Demi Moore and Barbra Streisand, it just goes to show you that anyone can be an actress these days. Though Estella should realize she *is* eye candy. So she shouldn't have a "no nudity" clause. And before any of you Estella fans write me telling me I'm wrong, and she's a great model turn actress. Or remind me how Estella is Canadian. Or how she said Welfare system sucks and Capitalism is cool in her Interview interview. I'm sure Estella is one of the few models and actresses out there that I could stand more than 5 minutes with talking about politics and take what they say seriously. I'm sure she wouldn't say the "5 year old" babble models like Gisele say when they try to think out loud. But the fact is, she's not a good actress. She has going for her that she does have what most models don't. They're either too skinny, no breasts, don't speak good English or look to boyish looking, to ever be an American movie star. Estella speaks English, has a nice body and breasts. Only other model I can think of that has a woman's body with breasts, speaks English and isn't too tall, is Bridget Hall. I doubt she can act either. But Estella Warren is not a good actress. Actually, you know who has a nice actress look to her, very beautiful, and has experiance in front of a camera who could be a good actress - Michelle Behennah. And if she ever needs a leading man to star beside her.. ahem.. I must highly recommend Modzzilla!)

+ Jil Sander Profits Fall 98 Percent
Pagesix (FWD report)- Jil Sander's pre-tax profits for the first six months of 2001 were down more than 98 percent.
(something wrong with Prada group management, bring back Jil Sander)

(The CFO Bernhard Wimmer blames high marketing costs. Who were they marketing too - Nudists? 98% drop... at this point, maybe cut the loses. Merge Jil Sander with another line. Cut the workforce, including upper management, bring up the profit margins)
+ Drooping (UK's Men’s magazines)
Economist - The men’s magazine market is in trouble. Does that mean men are too? Or is it simply that the lads’ culture is fading?
(Interesting theory. I disagree partially with it. But it makes good points with fashion/Men's mags being connect with the economy cycle, and the turn off of a product when it dumbifies its own literature for its readers. Like they say. They went from discussing John Major in politics to how big will Jordan's bra size go? But I think another reason for the drop is the basic alienation fashion started at the start of this year. Though I won't go into that again now.

Honestly, who are these magazines being published for these days? It's certainly hasn't been us for awhile. Is it too hard to get a thought provoking article along side with the eye candy? I don't really care what sized bra Jordan wears this week.

But I noticed this month's UK FHM is going for eye candy favorites with Jennifer Lopez, topless Josie Maran, and Alysa Milano. That should keep most happy. But how about a tiny bit more. I mean, this Tory leader election going on is great drama. Why not a piece on that? If there must be a Jordan content in its pages. Then stick her in a bikini on the side of the page. But have something worthy to read)

Tuesday 4th September 2001

Welcome to September,

Back from London. Nice little town. Whoever designed the layout to Harrods should be tried up and beaten. Terrible layout. Tiny mall compared to the ones we have in Edmonton. Of course, you don't get all the stores Harrods has, here either. I feel sorry for every woman shopper that will go in there - £1 to use the washroom! I'm suprised shoppers haven't done a revolt over that. Of course the only guy's big name designer I really like, Hugo Boss, it was sold out of anything good. Just golf shirts, 'bleh'. The Hugo stores have a better selection here too. Also it hard to get used to Levi as a big designer store. There's one in there. It everywhere here.

On Sloan street we saw a fur protest in front of Fendi. It's interesting witnessing one of these. Since usually you get the "media's" version of themn. They're SO politically correct they of course report on the protestor's side. In reality, at least in this case, but you get an impression from everyone else's look on their face - cause they look used to these. In reality, totally different!

The police stand around a group of lazy welfare hippies rolling their eyes wishing the protesters would get a life. The shops point and laugh. The manager of Josephus was a regular comedian pointing out how dirty and stinky the protestors were (They were too. We walked by them on our way down the street). That's about all for the fashion tour of London we took.

There's a Canada themed bar, with Molson Canadian, poutine, but get this. No pea soup. Also, bartenders have never heard of Malibu rum mixed with pinapple juice and other cocktails. And things close to early. 7 pm for stores? 10:30 for pubs?? And don't get me started with Sundays! Well, it's Britain's fault for voting in that dork Smilin' Tony Blair and Red Ken. But London, though too expensive (the Pound is so over-valued!), is a very nice town. I liked it.
