Zob - Zob of Supermodels in the House, reviews VS
(Heard on TV, CTV Newsnet, that half of the complaints on the VS shows by "certain groups", were made Before the actual show. This definetly smells like the work of the PTC. If you enjoy fashion and don't want special interest to prejudge and get banned fashion of any sort on American television. You really should write a polite letter to the PTC and tell them you won't stand by and let them take away something you might enjoy. This special interest group has been succesful in its censorship.)

+ ABC, Victoria's Secret Cross the Line
PTC - A social conservative group which WILL take away your rights if you let them.
( You might want to write a polite letter to ABC and let them know that you did enjoy the VS show, if you did. Or let ABC know that you enjoyed them branching out into showing a fashion show, and maybe you want to tell them that they can be less conservative in the format)

+ Chic Happens: Fashion News and Gossip
Hintmag - November 21, Hilton sisters, Lagerfeld, and news
(The news on peta reminds me of something I heard on TV, CTV Newsnet, on Madonna. I guess on her and Guy's estate, she's begun hunting and loves it!I guess if true we won't be seeing Madonna much over at Stella McCartney's farm. Which would be for the better, since I image Ted Nuggent 100 times more fun of a person to hang with. Guy Ritchie is a good influence on Madonna. It's amazing how someone seen as a fashion icon, who everyone follows her lead, is really a follower herself. Hopefully now that she likes hunting, she'll be campaigning for the Tories in the near future. I wonder if Hunter Chic will be the next trend. Good to see Madonna behaving normal, unlike folks like the McCartney's, who'd probably fight for voting rights for cows or something silly like.)

+ Criticism Against ABC's 'Secret' Mounts
Zap2it.com - ABC defends its"Victoria's Secret Fashion Show" on charges that it was too ruanchy for American adult eyes. Federal Communications Commission, toying with investigating whether or not the show violated broadcast decency standards. Special interest groups like National Organization for Women and the Parents Television Council also attacking ABC for airing the show.
[Wow. The government censors, fascist feminists, and social conservatives united on a cause! That doesn't happen often. Only in America would a few, who aren't even interested in the subject to start with (and probably didn't watch it even)! Only a few jerks complain and everyone bows down to them. It was the Walt Disney version of a lingerie fashion show! Could it of been anymore innocent for a lingerie show? What makes me also mad is everyone knew what the show was about. Ladies' underwear. So why are jerks complaining? It's like sitting in the smoking section in a restaurant then whining about the smoke. Then don't sit in that section, idiot! Yup, if it's not big brother telling people how to behave and act in life. Then it's the self appointed "morality police" or authoritarian control freak left-wing social activists. Sadly only if people cared enough to contact the FCC might the majority be heard and the advertisers. The fringe minority and moral police have too much time on their hands. So they whine and complain about everything. Believe me on this. The P.T.C. will go after the advertisers who sponsored this show, and N.O.W. will complain non-stop until they get their way. N.O.W. isn't too effective these days, but the PTC has been in the past. They launched attacks against professional wrestling not being to their liking and won that battle.]

on the

The Walt Disney owned American TV network, ABC; which last night had a fashion model themed night, with models on the trivia gameshow, Who Wants to be a Millionaire, and the Victoria Secrets show. Came in its usual 3rd place on Thursday nights. Millionaire got a 8.2, while the Victoria Secrets show got a 8.3.

* correction: Earlier I wrote Monday Night Football was the show ABC usually showed in the timeslot that VS was on. Obviously that's wrong. Monday is Monday, while Thursday is not. My fault, I was thinking of two things while writing this earlier. I guess the VS show took some viewership off UPN's Smackdown (pro-wrestling), near the end of its hour. Monday Football and WWF Raw are competitors on Moday nights for young males demographics 18-30. So I was thinking of that while typing the other. On regular Thursday nights. Millionaire is an hour later then when it was this week, and a low cost produced comedy show is on at the 9 pm hour usually, Who's Line Is It Anyways? I don't know what the usual rating is for the regular ABC Thursday night line-up at the moment, but it is 3rd place. Hence why its shows are low cost on that night.

To give you an idea to what ABC may of been hoping for (though I'm just guessing here). The Michael Jackson special the CBS network showed earlier this week, it got a 14.4 share, and won it's night. WWF Smackdown on Thursday got around a 4.5, which is on the low-end average for that show. So if ABC was hoping for a nice 3rd place, then I'd call it a success. Thursday night was won by NBC's Friends, it was on during Millionaire, got a 16.2. CBS' CSI won the hour the VS show was on with a 15.7.

I doubt the VS show cost much to produce. I hope the marketing of it wasn't expensive. This month being sweeps month. A month networks need high ratings for, to get higher ad revenue. I doubt the VS will crack the top 20 for the week, compared to last week's 20th most watched show (football) which had a 9.8 rating. The regular ABC Thursday night shows don't appear to crack the Top 20 shows of a week.

There are an estimated 102.2 million television households in the USA. A single ratings point represents 1%, or 1,022,000 households. Share is the percentage of television sets in use tuned to a specific program.
Source for ratings: Zap2it.com

I notced Tasha Tilberg is on the cover of Canada Elle., but not inside. Canadian magazines would be taken more seriously if THEY (the magazines themselves) took their editorials more seriously. Then Fashion in Canada might be taken seriously.

+ LVMH Sales Dropped 5% in October
NY Times (sign in) - LVMH says its sales in October fell by 5% from a year ago. Operating profits for the full year might be 15% lower than forecast.
(5% for October is minor considering everything. The 15% is thin ice. LVMH might want to save money by creating a Models Salary Cap, like they have in professional sports. That's a start in saving money. Cutting the usual pay for runway and ad champaigns by 20% would save too. Perhaps using up and coming photographers could save a euro too? I would NOT punish the team. The hard working employees who've put in their 9 to 5 plus overtime, every day. Don't slash the staff. But be pickier on the designers they buy out.)

UK Telegraph - Camouflage chic
(If this camouflage look is a new trend in the UK, then I believe it originated in Japan. I remember hearing a story a month ago about how the Afganistan war has inspired a new trend in Japan. Camouflage pants and head scarfs. It's actually a non-political message. It's just a trend. No politics. Though unfortunely I could see some designers out there try to start a anti-American/Capitalism message in future designers. We'll see if any head scarf begin appearing in the near future)

Tuesday's Victoria's Secret show line up.Also my rating for each one.

· Anouck Lepere. B, I'm sure she'll look fine in lingerie. I'm more than sure of that. Just I'm not sure if she was one of the better choices out there.
· Adriana Lima. A+, Adriana will look incredible.
· Alek Wek. B, Alek doesn't do anything for me, but she should draw enough attention to the underwear, in a good way
· Alessandra Ambrosio. A-, She's cute. Probably be more of a favorite with guys then with women.
· Audrey Marnay. C+, I realize she wants to show off her belly after having a kid. But unless her body has morphed. Audrey doesn't have a good lingerie or swimsuit body.
· Aurelie Claudel. A-, she'll look fine in it. Maybe even be a stand out?
· Bridget Hall. A-, Bridget is one of those women who looks better with underwear on to help lift and tuck away. She has more guy like hips. Fat seems to build up in those areas on her when she does gain some. Yet her legs remain skinny as always.
· Caroline Ribeiro. A-, I'm not a fan of her's, but she does have a nice body and is recognizable. So a good choice.
· Daniela Pestova. B+, she looks fine, but can she stand out anymore?
· Diana Meszaros. B+, should grab some attention
· Eva Herzigova. A+, Eva was made for lingerie.
· Fernanda Tavares. A, beautiful girl, made to model lingerie.
· Gisele Bundchen. A, say what you will of her but Gisele makes a good lingerie model. Some might argue she looks like a 14 year old boy with fake breasts and long hair. But she looks good in underwear.
· Heidi Klum. A, always a good choice with swimsuits or lingerie
· Ines Rivero. A, good safe choice.
· Karen Elson. A, some might be surprise with this choice. Not me. Have you ever seen Karen in some of her past Dutch and Numero editorials? She is cute in these sort of moments, you'll see.
· Karolina Kurkova. A, interesting choice. I think she's up to it.
· Maggie Rizer. C+, bad choice.
· Mini Anden. B+, breasts might be too small, but she'll probably do something about that. Even if she doesn't, she has a nice body and face.
· Molly Sims. B-, getting too old.
· Omahyra Moto. D, what an awful choice. VS branching out to transvestites? If they wanted a model who tends to be just as popular with girls as with guys, why not Malgosia Bela?
· Rhea Durham. A, I think she'll either go unnoticed or turn some heads (depends on how much time she gets and the lingerie she wears)
· Rie Rasmussen. B, not too familiar with her, but she should do fine.
· Trish Goff. A-, I think Trish will be a sleeper hit. Guys who've never seen her before will be asking who's that girl?
· Tyra Banks. A, no surprise with her. I guess it's the only way to get Oprah to buy some.

Wonder why they went with some of the more manly looking models. Omahyra Moto? VS hoping to break into the militant lesbian demographics? It's hosted by Rupert Everett. I sure hope he isn't in lingerie!

Pirelli Calendar 2002 comments: It sucks.

Peter Lindbergh says about the Calendar: "This is a little different from the previous Calendars. This time for Pirelli it's about the personalities of a carefully selected group of young Hollywood actresses and it's a lot of fun!

Pirelli: The main novelty elements for this year edition are represented by the choice of actresses instead of models who in true Pirelli style are tastefully clothed, giving the calendar a subtle and transparent elegance. Secondly, keeping up with current contemporary trends, Pirelli has also abandoned total nudity, no longer fashionable, to celebrate the beauty, personality, sophistication and aura, to create a masterpiece that will remain timeless.

As a friend commented to me on that:
Guess they haven't been watching American film...

Now if a magazine like Italian Vogue had said the above I really couldn't say what I'm going to say. Since after reading it a person could just roll their eyes and think "Typical guy.."

But since the Pirelli calendar was a calendar, a pin-up calendar, for guys. As its primary audience, or at least we were.

I want models! I don't want a bunch of actresses or model turn actresses. Especially if they're not willing to do A Real Pirelli calendar! If they are not willing to follow tradition. Then tradition is dead. The Pirelli calendar is just another calendar then. Nothing special. Oh wow, it has what's her face in a dress standing outside (zzzz). Oh wait, it's her in both a colour photo and a black and white photo, standing outside in a dress (zzzzz). You just know there's a rich British Lord, or Greek Count, or German Baron, out there working on his car. He was hoping for a real pin-up calendar to hang up on his garage wall, with hot models nude, yes nude inside. Now he's stuck with the Walt Disney pirelli calendar. Probably hung up beside his left-over dinner from two nights ago; in the trash can!

I thought certain European designers were alienating men with their stupid men's fashion ideas like the male lingerie. That idea is stupid. This calendar is an insult.

To my woman visitors. Would you like it if Playboy models ran around topless in Vogue? I bet the same percentage that said "No" is the same percentage of guys who are agreeing with me about this stupid calendar. We guys don't ask for much. Just the Pirelli Calendar, Victoria's Secrets catalogue and Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue. We ask that they're produced for us. Us guys who like to look at women (cause women are awesome!). I don't think that's too much to be asking for?

I'm sure someone will point out Pirelli is probably just kissing up to President Bush. Wanting him to hang their calendar on the wall, since it has his neice in it. I doubt Bush would fancy seeing his neice with her top off. If that's the case. Then maybe 2003 we'll get a real Pirelli calendar. Personally I don't care anymore. They've had too many sub-par, dumb themes, stupid ideas, crummy photographer with no vision, in a row.

I don't know know about you, but I've always prefer Goodyear tires. Or Bridgestone, Michelin, Yokohama. Maybe one of them is interested in doing a calendar?

Your comments on it?

+ The Worker's State Is History, and Fashion Reigns
NY Times (sign-in) - Fashion in Moscow. Every big designer is opening a store there, even though very few Russians can afford their clothings. But that doesn't stop them from buying the clothes.
(Really interesting article about Russian spending habits and why it is like that. But the artical forgot to point out something I think a North American or Western European should remember before they start judging this spending habit of Russians. They spend cash not plastic. Credit cards there are more like debit cards. So what's worse: Spending too much of your monthly salary or falling behind on credit card payments? Another Russian fact: 250,000 issues a month of Russian Vogue are sold. Though from Russians I know, they're not interested in the Russian content of the magazine. They like what the rest of Europe or America has to offer. The models they use. Their imagery, but not recycled editorials. Actually, hearing about Russia's modelling scene is kinda interesting too. A person could do an article on that alone.)

I still have troubles believing that UK Rich list. How could Kristy Hume be the top model? I hardly saw her in anything. I kept reading stuff on Kate Moss. I saw Karen Elson in plenty of things. Where did Kristy get £3.65 million? Did she auction her hair on E-bay and some dork with a hair fetish buy it? Did she start up an oil rig on the coast of Norway? If she was the highest paid model in the UK, then I guess she was. I just wonder: How?

And my apologies to New York. I was so busy I didn't know there was a mayor election going on. At least the right guy won. Montreal's mayor's race... does it matter? It's obvious Toronto is the new fashion capital in Canada.
