Fashist! is 5 years old. It was December 1996 when
I first put a website online.
It wasn't Fashist! at first, but eventually it was (Aug 99').

+ GAP
ads fall flat as sales dip 25%
Pagesix - 19th consecutive monthly loss.
(Grampa Simpson said it best: “I used to be
with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with
isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.”
GAP was "it", 3 years
ago when their marketing idea of hip music and teenagers worked.
Those teenagers have grown 3 years and GAP is still thinking it's
fresh!? The teenagers have been replace with musicans, most of whom
most teens either don't know or care about. GAP's ad department
has to stop making commercials they and their SoHo coffee house
friends think are cool. Actually, they should just fire the lot
and start again.
Being fresh, being on the cutting
edge, means originality. Using the same idea is not original. Not
edgy. Going back to what once worked for them only a couple years
after it was done isn't new either. It's retro. And a two year retro
is pretty sad! Can two years even qualify for retro? GAP needs decide
which market is it after. A new market of teenagers or the old one
of teens who are almost adults now, and the young adults who are
finishing collage or already living in the real world. The go after
that market. Teens of now want their own thing. Their old market
is older and has other concerns and priorities.
GAP lost "it" and what
it's trying to do is weird and scary waste of time.)

Models star booker grabs gals, splits
Pagesix - George Speros has defected from Boss Models,
taking with him Omahyra Mota, and Arlette Monkewitz
(Model-wise, No Big lose.. If Boss really
really wants a Omahyra replacement, then just go outside and find
the first Pueto Rican working on a construction site. Stick a bra
on him, and viola..)
+ Only

FUK - Soviet Lomographic clothing, with pict
(It's funny. Once anything Westen, like Levi,
was the cool thing for the USSR. Now in 2002, anything Soviet seems
to be cool in London fashion. I don't know if it's just those who
like counter-culture. In which case all this Soviet chic stuff could
be nothing more than some idiot champaign socialist idea of what
they want to push on other people, since freedom and free choice,
certainly has never been a thing socialists, and social democratics
and progessives believe in.
Levi isn't the uber cool it once
was in Russia, since it's easy to come by. But these items of their
USSR past are still seen as garbage, so don't be surprise to see
lots of this Soviet produced junk on eBay. Russians do not mind
selling this stuff to any Londoner who wants it. They just think
it's funny that anyone would want it.)

(I saw Fellowship of the Ring 2 weeks ago. Good
movie. Not the best movie of all time, but maybe of the year. I'd
give it, ****1/2. I just wish they hadn't given more of a role to
Liv Tyler's elf character [Arwen]. There's no love story in Lords
of the Rings! Girls aren't going to be tricked into thinking Lords
is the next Titanic love story movie. The movie is about men and the
struggles they go through. Man vs man, man vs nature, man vs himself.
Great cast though! Sean Astin [Samwise] and Ian McKellen [Gandalf]
were the two big stand outs. Christopher Lee [Saruman] should easily
win one of those Mtv 'Creepiest villian' awards. Liv Tyler looked
the part, but all in all, her acting just isn't the level of the rest
of the cast, and was the weakest link of the movie. I hope they don't
change the story anymore so to just add more Liv in it.)

comments on fashion's use of Jeisa (Brazil
Vogue 12/01 review)
She looks beautiful, but I don´t like
the fact that they´re exploiting too much the 16 year old. All
the images I see of her nowadays is showing her boobs. This one, she´s
wearing that cut off tops like the one Ana Beatriz wore at the recent
Stella McCartney show.
(Seems like every Brazil model has to be the
next "Boobs from Brazil". Silicone must be worth more than
gold in Brazil.) |

But I will try and get an update up within the next couple of days. |

+ Madonna
Inc.
National Post - Not fashion
related. It's opening said something of noteworthy: After
a noticeable dip following the events of Sept. 11, the worship of
celebrity seems to have made a remarkable comeback as people clamour
for more glamour to take their minds off the imminent destruction
of civilization.
If that's the case. Then now
would be the time for really glamour models to be pushed, and no
more of these experiments and token social commentary models we
seem to be getting slammed down our throats the past couple years.
I just really hope that some of the current "top" models
wouldn't be used to lead in any possible Supermodels second coming.
People will disagree with
me here. Models like Angela Lindvall annd even Gisele are no Cindy
Crawford or even Carla Bruni, of their equivelent days. Models like
Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, are certainly nothing like they were
10 years ago. Especially Kate Moss. Who's quickly becoming a walking
parody of her former self. Surely there's something better than
old faces and faces that didn't launch a thousand ships. To Kate
Moss fans. You're a loyal bunch. But you and the fashion industry
are mistaking 'Nostalgic' with 'Cutting edge'. 'Cutting edge' means
"New and fresh". Nostalgic means "Old. Been there.
Seen it. Done it."
