Can James overcome the stigma?
Ex supermodel James King fights hard to overcome the MTA stigma. The Omaha girl stars in three movies this year, following up her success as Nurse Betty in "Pearl Harbor":
- "Slackers", a comedy on college students, is already in theaters. James is Angela, the girl all students dream of. The film is written by David Steinberg (story for "American Pie 2") and directed by former fashion photographer Dewey Nicks (film debut). "Slackers" don't sound like a good bet; the reception was as bad as it gets: "A turn off" (L.A. Times), "twaddle" (Rolling Stone), "discordant" (S.F. Chronicle), "painfully bad" (Chicago Tribune), "thus far the worst movie of 2002" (Atlanta Journal). There is an official website here.
- "Lone Star State of Mind", written by Trevor Munson (writing debut), will be released at April 12. James is a small town girl from Texas, who's dream of moving to L.A. with her sweetheart (played by Joshua Jackson) lands on hot water. David Semel, director for tv hits "Beverly Hills 90210", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Dawson's Creek", makes his film debut.
- Comic based "Bulletproof Monk", the adventurous story of an immortal Tibetan kung fu master, is written by Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris ("Josh Kirby", "Demon Knight") and directed by Paul Hunter ("The Wizard of Oz" with Snoop Doggy Dogg). James is a Russian Princess. The filming begins this weekend in Toronto. "Bulletproof Monk" will be released late this year or early in 2003.

• Norwegian model stars in "Terminator 3"
22 year old model Kristanna Loken (3rd place at the 1994 Elite Look of the Year contest) stars in "Terminator 3", next to Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is the first major studio film for the Norwegian model who never made it to the very top of the fashion industry. Kristanna's name was revealed only last week. She was selected among thousands of candidates for the leading "T-3" female role, this of a sophisticated killer cyborg. The filming begins in April with a rumoured budget of more than 170 mil USD and Jonathan Mostow ("U-571") replacing James Cameron as director. "Terminator 3" will be released in 2003.

+ London: Soviet style comes in from the cold
Daily Telegraph - Tata-Naka show
(Don't know why anyone would want to celebrate one of the most brutal, awful, regimes in history? Or why anyone would want to buy and support it? There's a book out there called, "Bias". It was written by a former CBS news reporter, on how American news is unbalanced and politically balanced to one side. No surprise fashion journalism falls into this bias. I'm sure they don't mean too. So I'm not pointing fingers. I just want to bring up something.

Remember back in 1999. When GQ listed its 200 most stylish men of the 20th century, which included the Nazis. It cost the editor his job and caused quite a stir. Yet someone glorifies a country, thankfully gone from earth, created by the Bolsheviks. I've yet to see anyone do a review of this show where they question the designers' source of inspiration.

Where's not talking about Galliano visiting St. Petersburg to get ideas. I'm also not judging what these designers did. I'm just pointing out a bias fashion seems to have.)

• Sunny goes to Hollywood
Model Sunny Mabrey debuts as a film actress on Columbia Pictures' movie, "The New Guy", in theaters May 10th. In fact, there are way too many debuts on this film: Tv producer/writer Ed Decter debuts as a film director while tv writer David Kendall debuts as a film writer. "The New Guy" is a typical highschool comedy about nerds, cool guys and cheerleaders. Its logline, "a zero will rise", says it all. Sunny, who also appeared in two episodes of "Angel" tv series, plays Courtney, the love blond. There is a trailer, a photo gallery, bios plus a synopsis at www.sony.com/thenewguy

• Rie Rasmussen's debut film
Rie Rasmussen appears in "Femme Fatale", a contemporary film noir written and directed by Brian De Palma. "Femme Fatale" was filmed in France at a cost of 14 mil euros. De Palma self financed it. Antonio Banderas stars as a paparazzo who's after an ambassador's wife, played by ex-supermodel Rebecca Romjin Stamos, who's trying to escape from her mysterious past. Ryuichi Sakamoto replaced Patrick Doyle as a composer for the soundtrack. The film will be released in Europe in 2002. Up to now no major studio is officialy involved as a US distributor, there is a rumour though that Fox expressed an interest. Rie Rasmussen appears in a small role and is credited as "Rie". There is a preview at femmefatalethemovie.com
