* Laetitia
in Toronto
Fashist! friend and Globe trotting photo journalist, Nam Parker
report for Fashist!Online about Laetitia Casta in Toronto, promoting
her new movie.
"I
was in Toronto as a guest of a couple of Indie Film makers and a
handful of bigtime entertainment lawyers that have a lot of pull
at the Toronto International Film festival. I was able to tag along
to all the events, gala screenings, premieres and parties. One of
the 61 films that I attended was a French film called Errance. To
my surprise, this film starred none other than my all time favorite
Model Laetitia Casta".

* Gisele
gets a gig..
Gisele Bundchen will play the villain in a remake of a French comedy,
"Taxi". Gisele will play the bank robber being chased
in the movie. The movie stars, Queen Latifah, as the taxi driver,
and Jimmy Fallon, as the detective. The movie's producers include,
Ice Cube and Luc Besson (who
also is credited with the story of the movie). This movie is currently
in production.
[A
movie with both Gisele and Fallon in it? Sounds like a real stinker
to me.]

Charlize,
a fashion photographer
Once upon a time Milano fashion week catwalker Charlize Theron stars
and executive produces in John Duigan's "Head in the Clouds",
a 20 million US$ drama set in the '30s Spanish civil war. Charlize
plays Gilda Besse, a fashion photographer who's looking for her
anti-nazi lover (Stuart Townsend) in the battlefields of Spain.
Penelope Cruz is her assistant. The filming is over but they still
have to find a distributor. Three pictures pop-up at the studio's
official site, Theron also appears as Britt Ekland, one of Sellers'
wives, in mini tv series "Life and Death of Peter Sellers",
with Heidi Klum (see separate story).
Heidi's teeth
Supermodel Heidi Klum is trying her acting teeth again these days
in both tv screen and silver screen. First, she appears in mini
tv series "Life and Death of Peter Sellers", written by
Lee Hall and Roger Lewis and directed by Stephen Hopkins. Heidi
plays Ursula Andress, Bond girl and sex bomb back in the early '60s,
one of Pink Panther's lovers. Sophie Dahl was originally casted
for the role, due to her physical resemplance to Andress, but she
withdrew because of her mother's relationship with Sellers. "Life
and Death of Peter Sellers" will be on tv screens in 2004.
This
will be Heidi's 3rd acting role, after small appearences in Mark
Christoffer's "54" and Paddy Breathnach's "Blow Dry".
Heidi also stars in Russell James' (debut) adventure "Nomad:
The Two Worlds" with Estella Warren (see separate story). Both
projects are currently under production.
Busy times for Estella
Four projects ahead for Canadian ex super model Estella Warren.
She appears in Wayne Kramer's romance "The Cooler" (to
be released Nov 21st) and stars in James Merendino's horror film
"Trespassing" (completed, currently looking for distribution),
in Russell James' adventure "Nomad: The Two Worlds" (currently
under production) and in John Ketcham's thriller "I Accuse"
(pre-production). However, none of above projects is a major studio
production. See pictures and a trailer for "the Cooler"
here.
Eva as the painter's wife
Supermodel Eva Herzigova is casted as Olga Koklova, Pablo Picasso's
first wife, for Mick Davis' "Modigliani", starring Andy
Garcia as Amendeo Modigliani. The 12 million US$ drama on the life
of the boheme artist from Livorno is currently under production.
This
is Eva's fifth acting role. See the original Olga Koklova here and
decide for yourself on the resemblance: here.

Carmen's second acting attempt
As American-Estonian project "Welcome to America"
has yet to deal with several setbacks, Carmen Kass will appear (star?)
in a Baltic project, produced by Ilmar Taska, starring Peter Franzen
of Finland. The project appears to be a thriller, a coproduction with
a couple of Baltic countries involved (some sort of a telefilm). A
Russian studio is also involved. More as soon as we will get our hands
into more infos. |

Jaime talk
There's talk about ex-model Jaime King these days,
as she stars in MGM's "Bulletproof Monk". Even if the critics
don't like it, the 52 mil USD project grossed 19.2 mil USD in its
first 11 days and the future seems optimistic in the video/dvd market.
Visit the official
website and take a look at the Feb 28th 2002 review, "Can
James overcome the stigma?" further down our Models in Movies
page. Officialy up to now Jaime is not yet booked for any future project.

Diane's
great chance
German model Diane Kruger, an ex Royal Ballet
student who had to abandon dancing after an accident, was hand selected
by his majesty, Wolfgang Petersen, to appear as Helen of Troy in
Warner's upcoming epic "Troy". The film, based in ancient
Greek poem "Iliad" by Homer, is due for a wide release
in late spring 2004, just before the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
Diane
Heidkrueger, as her real name is, is a hot selling name
these days in the French film industry, being Luc Besson's protege.
In fact she is about to star in Besson's upcoming "Michel Vaillant",
set in Formula One racing, based in Jean Graton's cult comic of
the 50s. "Troy" will be her first Hollywood film. Stay
tuned to Yahoo!Movies:
Troy(2004), for an official announcement of her role and the
upcoming link to the official under construction website.

Naomi strikes again
Though she was not casted for an appearence in Quentin
Tararantino's upcoming "Kill Bill" (reportedly, the producers
were rather nervous at her reputation), supermodel Naomi Cambell,
at 32, is attempting once more to make the screen. She will star as
a stripper alongside Drea Di Matteo ("The Sopranos) in "Go
Go Tales". The film, set in a NYC strip club, sounds like a mid/low
budget comedy. If the film succeeds, Naomi will also star in a mini
tv series based on the same script. |

Devon's street racing
Supermodel Devon Aoki appears as Suki in John Singleton's
("Shaft") sequel to "The Fast And The Furious".
The film, working title "2 Fast 2 Furious", is set in Maimi,
where Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), stripped of his police badge,
is attempting to clean the Miami street racing
circuit. "2F2F" is produced by Original Film and is due
for a wide theater release in June 6th by Universal. Have a taste

Uma
to Kill Bill
32 year old Uma Thurman stars in Quentin Tarantino's
long awaited return, Miramax's "Kill Bill", to debut in
Cannes Film Festival May 2003 and to be released in October 10th 2003.
This is a typical QT film: Uma (assasin Black Mamba) awakens after
five years in a coma, as she was shot in her wedding by her ex boss,
Bill (David Carradine). She is about to revenge everyone involved,
saving Bill for last. Lucy Liu appears as Cottonmouth (Yakuza queen),
Daryl Hannah as California Mountain Snake (Bill's assistant) and Michael
Madsen as Sidewinder (Bill's brother). This is Uma's first major production
in years, as her family was a priority for a few years. QT and Miramax
will publish "Kill Bill" novel a few months in advance of
the release. Changes in the story may still occur within the next
months. "Kill Bill" sounds funny, as long as you can afford
two hours for one more QT gangster film. |

Simone and CQ
Simone
did not make on its opening weekend 4.1 million dollars. It made
3.8 million, still good for 9th place. As of Monday, it reaches
4.1 million, after dropping in sales by 65% from Sunday. CQ may
have finished its North American run (8/22?). It has made in North
America, $404,332.
Can
you believe still some newspapers and web sites actually believed
Simone's makers, that Rachel Roberts was a computer image. But not
all were so easily fooled.
+ New
Line Remains Mum About 'Simone' Identity
Zap2it - The actress is an amalgam -- a bit of Grace Kelly, Elizabeth
Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren, Madonna, Marilyn Monroe, Whitney
Houston and many more. She looks like Julia Roberts, Charlize Theron
and Cameron Diaz.
... next day's article
+ Simone
Is a Real Girl After All
Zap2it - However, a number of press sources have pointed out that
the character has an uncanny resemblance to Canadian model Rachel
Roberts
(me being one who pointed it out to them.
Don't get me wrong. It was dumb of Zap2it to fall for it. But Zap2it
is a good site.)
+ The
Simone show
Lucire - New Zealand written and directed movie Simone, with a Canadian
fashion model playing Max Headroom
+ Simone,
Vancouver's secret star
Katherine Monk of the Vancouver Sun - Kits supermodel is the synthetic
star in new Pacino film. Rachel interview.
(Kits is the "hip" area in Vancouver.)

'stars' leave much to be desired
Katherine Monk of the Vancouver Sun - Hollywood can make a fake
star, but only fans can make a real celebrity
+ The
truth about Simone
National Post - Digital star is played by a real actress, but you
knew that -- didn't you?
National Post, with files from news services - Did you know Simone
is actually a actress? *gasp*
(I'm thinking the studio that released Simone,
should of built up the Rachel and the effects to make her look digital.
Instead of the dumb 3.8 opening weekend idea of saying Simone was
a digital actress all along. Maybe the studio highered who ever
does Gap commercials to maket their movie. That would explain everything!
Speaking of Gap's new Shalom Harlow commercial. Kinda provacative,
eh?)
+ Simone
'as herself' looks a lot like a certain model
USA Today - film that purports to be a satire of the dangerous power
of cinematic illusion
(I hope one day there are digital actors and
actresses. Maybe then studios won't be so dumb in paying so much
to actors, and ticket prices will go down)
+ Mystery

Calgary Sun - The end credits list Simone as Herself,
with no mention of Roberts. Roberts name will be added to
the credits when the film comes out on video.

s1m0ne
Originaly planned for October 2001, "s1m0ne",
written and directed by Andrew Niccol, produced by Jersey Films and
distributed by New Line Cinema, will be released in August 23rd 2002.
The film marks the acting debut of 23 year old Canadian supermodel
Rachel Roberts who stars as Simone, next to Al Pacino. "s1m0ne"
was filmed last year under working title "The Hollywood Project".
It is about a movie producer who's sick and tired of overpaid movie
stars and decides to digitally create a new actress (Simone) to finish
his film. Simone though becomes a star overnight, as everyone thinks
that she is a real person. New Zealander Niccol already counts two
hits as both his films up to now ("Gattaca" plus screenplay
for "Truman Show") were loved by the public and the critics.

Princess Kitana is back!
If looks can kill, Talisa Soto is a born killer -born
10,000 years ago, as Princess Kitana, an assasin ninja warrior, as
the screenplay of "Mortal Combat" goes. The third sequel
to the movie is scheduled for 2003 and the Brooklyn girl will play
Kitana once more. Meanwhile, 35 year old Talisa will give birth to
her first child this fall. A supermodel and Bond girl ("Licence
to Kill", 1989) Talisa Soto has worked with legendary film makers
David Lynch, Francis Ford Coppola and Michael Cimino (none of them
in his best moments, though) before falling into low taste movies.
She was discovered in new last year with Leon Ichaso's "Pinero",
where she met her child's father, Benjamin Bratt. She also appearsin
"Ecks vs Sever" (Warner, in theaters September 27th 2002)
where Antonio Banderas and Lucy Liu star. I won't bet that "Mortal
Combat 3" can be anything like the original Paul Anderson's 1995
film with C. Lambert (a movie transfer of the arcade game), but it
is too early to tell as we have yet to know the director. |

Amber's new attempt
Supermodel Amber Valletta appears in Miramax Films
comedy "The Duplex", in theaters February 7th 2003. Release
date for the project, written by Larry Doyle (The Simpsons) and directed
by Danny De Vito, is already rescheduled twice. Drew Barrymore and
Ben Stiller star. There is no official website yet but you could probably
find more in http://www.upcomingmovies.com/duplex.html Amber, who
debuted in late '90s comedy "Drop Back Ten", went on very
promisingly in 2000, appearing in "What Lies Beneath" and
"Family Man", but fell into mediocrity in 2001 with appearences
in "Perfume" and "Max Keeble's Big Move". |

Milla the survivor
Even if she didn't cause a traffic chaos in French
Riviera, as Cameron Diaz with Di Caprio did, Milla Jovovich was a
strong appearence in recent Cannes film festival, as she joined Sir
Elton John's Aids benefitial gala at the Moulin de Mougins restaurant,
with Miramax boss Harvey Weinstein. The 26 year old Ukrainean ex supermodel,
after the sci-fi-horror movie "Resident Evil" (a 40 mil
USD film produced in Europe by Contsantin Films and distributed in
the States by Sony, www.spe.sony.com/movies/residentevil)
stars in three more films this year: She is a Yiddish folk singer
in Greg Pritikin's comedy "Dummy", a blind date girl in
"You Stupid Man" (a comedy directed by debuting Brian Burns,
filmed with less than 10 mil USD) and Erin in Bob Rafleson's thriller
"No Good Deed" (filmed at 22 mil USD). Bad news is all those
three movies still seek for a distributor in order to secure a 2002
release date. |

What
stigma?
Cameron Diaz stands as a strong indication that there
isn't such a thing as an MTA stigma. Though after "Vanilla Sky"
she appeared in a couple of movies that critics love to hate ("Slackers"
and "The Sweetest Thing"), she was welcomed as a Diva last
Monday in Cannes, for the 20 minute preview of Scorsese's up and coming
epic film, "The Gangs of New York", where Cameron stars
as Jenny Everdeane. Some of those few people who already saw the entire
movie claim this is the best 2002 film thus far. "Gangs"
is an 85 mil USD film produced by Miramax and is set in mid 19th century,
when Irish and Italian gangs were ruling NYC. "This is my biggest
ever undertaking", said Martin Scorsese in Cannes. "This
film asks, what is America and what does it mean to be an American".
The film was to be released last December, there were rumours though
by then of a falling out between the director and Miramax. Last Monday
in Cannes both Scorsese and Mr. Weinstein, Miramax boss, dismissed
above rumours. Final release date is set for December 25 2002, as
Miramax believes "Gangs" will be an Oscar sweeper. In the
meantime, Scorsese has to cut it down to 150 minutes -it was more
than 180 minutes long originaly while even now it is still 164 minutes.
Official site is at www.gangsofnewyork.com
. 29 year old Cameron Diaz is booked up to 2004 -she is Natalie in
"Charlie's Angels 2" and Princess Fiona voice for animated
"Shrek 2". |

Latetitia Casta stars in french film "Rue des

Final release date for C.Q.
Long awaited "C.Q.", Angela Lindvall's
screen debut, will be released in May 24, after was pushed back
another three weeks from May 3rd. The film, originally sceduled
for late 2001, is about a young American director who's attempting
to film a sci-fi movie with a next to nothing budget in the socially
turmoiled late '60s Paris. "C.Q." was filmed mostrly in
Luxembourg some sixteen months ago. It is produced by American Zoetrope,
Francis Ford Coppola's family business, and distributed via United
Artists / M.G.M., as part of a 10 movie deal between U.A. and Zoetrope.
The film was written and directed by Roman Coppola, son of Francis
Ford. Roman, co-writer of "The Spirit of '86", is debuting
here as a director, following the steps of his sister, Sofia ("Virgin
Suicides"). There is a neat official
website for "C.Q." at www.mgm.com/experiencecq/. Angela
is Valentine, a young actress who's charm is strong enough to blow
out the mind of two film makers. "I won the lottery with her",
said Roman Coppola on Angela's acting ability.
Natalia
Vodianova and Diana Gartner also appear in small roles.

More
on Carmen's debut
The debut film of Estonian supermodel Carmen Kass is
entitled "Welcome to America". It is about a gang of Estonian
bank robbers in Los Angeles, who are connected to a beautiful Estonian
translator (Carmen). An FBI agent (Michael Madsen) is after them.
The film is directed by John Sjogren, who already did five more low
budget films with Madsen. Some of the filming was done last November
in L.A. while some more is due next month in Tallinn, Estonia. We
hear that Carmen enjoyed the experience and she was good on her Estonian
lines but feeling uncomfortable when she had to speak english. Most
of Sjogren's films up to now had a negative reception. |

Time
model
Cuban/British actress/model Sienna Guillory appears
in "Time Machine" as Emma. The 85 mil USD Dreamworks production
is already in theaters worldwide. Based on the 19th century H.G.
Wells sci-fi book, "Time Machine" is co-directed by Simon
Wells, author's great grand son, and Gore Verbinski. Guy Pearce
and song writer Samantha Mumba star. This timemachine.countingdown.com
is the official website. "Time Machine" is Sienna's 12th
film, as she was an actress by the age of 13, before she tried modeling.
Again, this is her first Hollywood major studio film. Later this
year she will also appear as Juliette in Penny Woolcock's "Principles
of Lust".
This
isn't Sienna's first film, but should be her most notable to date,
for the 5'6 model turn actress. She's been a pro actress since 1988
(when she was 13). Her father, a guitarist who played with legends
like Donovan or the Stones, knew lots of people in the industry
and this opened many doors for Sienna. Time Machine is probably
her 10th film or so. Here is Sienna Guilroy from Model

Can
James overcome the stigma?
Ex supermodel James King fights hard to overcome the
MTA stigma. The Omaha girl stars in three movies this year, following
up her success as Nurse Betty in "Pearl Harbor":
- "Slackers", a comedy on college students, is already
in theaters. James is Angela, the girl all students dream of. The
film is written by David Steinberg (story for "American Pie 2")
and directed by former fashion photographer Dewey Nicks (film debut).
"Slackers" don't sound like a good bet; the reception was
as bad as it gets: "A turn off" (L.A. Times), "twaddle"
(Rolling Stone), "discordant" (S.F. Chronicle), "painfully
bad" (Chicago Tribune), "thus far the worst movie of 2002"
(Atlanta Journal). There is an official website here.
- "Lone Star State of Mind", written by Trevor Munson
(writing debut), will be released at April 12. James is a small town
girl from Texas, who's dream of moving to L.A. with her sweetheart
(played by Joshua Jackson) lands on hot water. David Semel, director
for tv hits "Beverly Hills 90210", "Buffy the Vampire
Slayer" and "Dawson's Creek", makes his film debut.
- Comic based "Bulletproof Monk", the adventurous
story of an immortal Tibetan kung fu master, is written by Ethan Reiff
and Cyrus Voris ("Josh Kirby", "Demon Knight")
and directed by Paul Hunter ("The Wizard of Oz" with Snoop
Doggy Dogg). James is a Russian Princess. The filming begins this
weekend in Toronto. "Bulletproof Monk" will be released
late this year or early in 2003. |
